Hi, I'm Linda, and I love to learn! I also love teaching students of all ages. I have been tutoring students from elementary age to adult on a daily basis for more than 15 years. I have experience with elementary math, middle school math, high school math, standardized tests, SATs, GEDs, and ASVABs. I am available days, evenings, and weekends. Individualized support for a student is the most effective and efficient way to gain confidence and mastery in any subject. I can help you with that!
Let me tell you a little more about myself. In 1985, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature within 3.5 years. I then completed a certification course to become a paralegal. I worked with the same employer in Cherry Hill, NJ for 11 years. My duties included legal work, office management, and tutoring. My favorite task was teaching professionals in various law offices how to install and use a time-keeping software program.
I began homeschooling my two boys right from the start. My boys have always been like most boys - constantly on the move with little inclination to sit down and learn something they have no immediate interest in. I completely understand frustrated students (and parents)! It was never easy, but it was such a thrill to teach them to read and write - and they are both avid readers today. (They also write well when they have to.) I then started a homeschool cooperative which I headed for six years in Collingswood, NJ. We grew to over 70 families and 200 students. I enjoyed the opportunity to teach a classroom full of energetic students.
My favorite subjects have always been language arts and math. As you can see, I majored in English Lit, but my high school pre-calculus teacher had encouraged me to consider becoming a math teacher. I have thoroughly enjoyed helping my children and my friends' children with their language arts and math homework.
My oldest is now a high school senior who is taking college classes as a part of the dual enrollment opportunity at Gloucester County College. My youngest is in his second year of high school. Both have become increasingly independent with their studies - which allows me the time to help other students. I look forward to working with you!
