Hello, Students! I am an experienced attorney and investigator with excellent communication and analytical skills. My undergraduate degree was in Women’s and Gender Studies with a focus on Sociology and a minor in Political Science. I attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where I was a member of the Douglass College Scholars Program, Phi Beta Kappa Society and earned the distinction of being a Stanton Anthony Scholar. I have a law degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law, where I received a University of California Fellowship my first year and was appointed to the Trial Practice Honors Board in my third year.
I was admitted to practice law in the State of California in December 1992 and in the State of New Jersey in December 1997. I have practiced law in both states and have worked as an investigator for ten of the last fifteen years, all of which required advanced reading, writing and editing skills. Recently, I taught Sociology at Burlington County College and tutored high school and college students in various subjects.
At BCC, I found myself in high demand as a teacher and a tutor due to my informal, collaborative style and my ability to put students at ease. I believe in helping students locate and take advantage of all sources of assistance available to them, including online resources. I also believe in working with students to design individual programs of study which utilize each student’s core strengths while developing his/her skills in order to overcome any areas of difficulty. I tutored students in subjects including English, Sociology, Psychology, American History and Public Speaking, for both introductory and upper-level courses. In tutoring students working on college essays and reports, my services ranged from simple editing to walking a student through the writing process from assignment to final draft. Many of my students have told me that they would never have made Dean's List or passed a particular course without my help. I am proud to have been able to help these dedicated students master difficult academic material while developing confidence in their own reading, writing and speaking skills.
I have always enjoyed history and have done well in my history-related studies, including Sociology, Political Science and Law. I have also tutored in American History and Politics and helped to raise one students' grade from a D to a B in a period of 4 weeks.
I attended law school in California, passed the California Bar Exam in July 1992 and was sworn in in December 1992. I subsequently relocated to NJ and easily passed the NJ Bar Exam in July 1997 and was sworn in in December 1997. I have a natural talent for the Multistate portion of the exam and have experience with both NJ and California essays, which follow a very similar format and require similar approaches. I also have experience with the 3-hour "Performance Test" portion of the California Bar Exam and can guide the student through the steps needed to craft a successful response to this portion of the exam.
I have worked in various fields over the years, including as a claims examiner for the NJ Department of Labor, and have a good understanding of the requirements of various jobs and careers. I have worked with career agencies and have helped many friends and associates with their resume writing, career research and job search activities over the years. As a teacher and tutor at Burlington County College, I also helped my students to develop and implement their career objectives in the context of their college courses and post-college plans.
I worked for Burlington County College as a Junior Adjunct Lecturer for 2 semesters, a Senior Adjunct Lecturer for 3 semesters and as a Tutor for over a year. Each of these positions involved close contact with students at various stages in their college careers. Many of these students discussed their majors, career plans, personal challenges and issues with me in addition to subject-related topics. I counseled many of them on these matters and helped them to come to the right decisions for their careers and personal lives.
I studied Criminal Law, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Procedure and Evidence when I attended UC Davis School of Law. I also argued criminal matters in connection with the UCD Moot Court and Trial Practice Programs. I have handled minor criminal and Municipal Court matters as an attorney in both California and New Jersey. In addition, I worked as an investigator for the State of New Jersey for ten years, handling quasi-criminal administrative matters involving practicing New Jersey attorneys. I have a thorough understanding of Criminal Law, the Criminal Justice System and the operations of both the New Jersey and California legal systems.
As an undergraduate, I enjoyed my study of Government and Politics so much that I went on to attend law school and to practice law and work as an administrative law investigator. I have also tutored in this subject and have helped several students to be successful in this subject area.
I earned my Juris Doctorate at the University of California, Davis and practiced law in California in the areas of plaintiffs' personal injury and family law. I subsequently returned to New Jersey and practiced family law as well as some traffic, municipal and real estate practice. I also have ten years of experience as an administrative law investigator. I have tutored students in studying law as well as colleagues in the above areas of practice.
I worked for Burlington County College as a Junior Adjunct Lecturer for 2 semesters, a Senior Adjunct Lecturer for 3 semesters and as a Tutor for over a year. Each of these positions involved a great deal of public speaking on my part, in addition to coaching my students through the oral report requirement of my Sociology 101 classes. I also tutored students in two Public Speaking courses, helping one student in particular to prepare all of her presentations and associated audio/visual aids. Despite her initial fear of public speaking, she ultimately came to enjoy these experiences and ranked at or near the top of both of these courses.
I have always enjoyed reading and did particularly well on the old Verbal portion of the SAT. I earned a 720 out of 800 on that grading scale and went on to attend my first-choice college as a member of the Scholars' Program. I subsequently graduated from UC Davis School of Law and went on to practice in California and New Jersey. I have tutored students in reading and writing and have helped others prepare for the SATs. Let me help you, too!
