The three things that I have always been interested in from a young age are languages, writing, and sports. After graduating from high school, I entered Georgetown University where I majored in Japanese and minored in Spanish. I also studied several other languages while there. I received a Bachelor's of Science degree in languages and linguistics with a major concentration in Japanese. After college, I joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer for two years in Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa where I not only picked up French but also successfully found funding for lots of different projects that positively affected the village where I lived (health, education, business, and information technology projects). Upon returning to the U.S., I started working mainly as a Legal/Technical Japanese Translator as well as an Oral Interpreter at companies such as JP Morgan and Nissan. I then shifted to document translation for legal and government entities with whom I have been independently working for the last 6 years.
My main goal, however, is writing. I have just raised funds to independently publish my first nonfiction work about my Peace Corps Volunteer experience. I also give presentations about this experience from elementary to adult age groups and my main objective in that is always to expand people's imaginations and make them laugh.
In between Peace Corps and pursuing a career as a multilingual translator, I also had the opportunity to teach English in Japan to middle school students for two years (with the JET Programme) as well as teach Japanese in America to college students (Michigan State University). Those two teaching experiences together with my educational background and travel experience have come together to give me a very unique and positive outlook on life and an understanding of people that enables me to cater to any student's individual learning needs.
Sports are also of equal importance to me as they contribute great dynamics to my outlook on life. Patience, consistency, focus, and fun are the four things I get from being a runner and so I naturally incorporate those things into everything else that I do. Hopefully, I will get the chance to work with you. Thank you.
