I can help with grammar, spelling, writing, general language issues. I love words - so much so that I started playing serious Scrabble many years ago, coming in second in my division in tournaments! I don't play as seriously anymore, but I remain a certified Scrabble nerd and love discovering new and different words that I can use in my game. Meanwhile, I have worked as a writer/editor/proofreader in a variety of settings, so I could help someone work through different kinds of writing issues.
I have also been making some kind of art virtually all of my life. I have exhibited and sold my work, and these days, I am a public school teacher of art. I incorporate art history into my lessons, to give my students context for their work. I am primarily self-taught, but did go to art school, so I could help someone work on their portfolio. I am a bit old-fashioned about my art in that I value good drawing skills above all else; I view drawing as the foundation to all visual material even if it isn't always revealed in the work.
I have done some tutoring as well in social studies/history, and elementary school level math and science. I have also helped students with their organizational and study skills, and have worked with students with disabilities, more often with children with autism/Asperger's Syndrome than with children with behavioral issues.
I adjust my methods depending upon what each student needs. I try my best to accommodate each person, and to work with the student and family to help in the most efficient and effective way possible.
