I am a designated Naval Aviator. I flew in the Marine Corps, and had to excel on the Pilot Aptitude test. I flew several different military aircraft and hold a current, valid Commercial Pilot's license. I flew in the Gulf War, and served on a Combined Command with several Air Force units. I can help any aspiring Air Force pilot applicant to increase their score on the AFOQT.

I took the ASVAB prior to serving in the Marine Corps, and qualified for Avionics Technician, which has the highest minimum cut-off of all enlisted Military Occupational Specialties (MOS). I subsequently attained commission to 2nd Lieutenant, became a Naval Aviator, and carrier qualified on the USS Lexington and the USS Eisenhower. I flew in the Gulf War, and left active duty as a Captain. I currently am active in tutoring for the ASVAB.

Civil Engineering

I went to school for Civil Engineering, after serving in the Marine Corps, at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. I was hired by CMU as a Research Engineer, and I worked there for 8 years. My experience is in robotics for surface and underground mining, large and small scale structural design, Surveying and Environmental Engineering.

I have been tutoring students to prepare for the COOP test since last year, and am also currently tutoring a Huntington Learning Centers Tutor to teach the COOP to her students! If you work with me to prepare for the COOP, you will go into it with confidence, you will be able to answer ALL the questions, and you will boost your grade, significantly. I am looking forward to meeting you!

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and have won multiple awards for my work. I am currently teaching drawing and relief printmaking.

Elementary Math

In addition to tutoring Math for Wyzant Customers, I'm a Math Tutor for Huntington Learning Center in Ridgewood, NJ. Through that experience I have a high level of familiarity with the Math curricula of most of the school systems in the county, and I have an extremely high level of experience.

I've done ESL tutoring in Pittsburgh and New York, and I have experience with the problems commonly encountered by new English speakers. I am patient and am especially adept at (due to my experience,) with native Arabic, Spanish, Tagalog and Russian speakers.

I love teaching Geometry, and I'm sure I can help you. Geometry means "Earth Measurement", and it was developed by the Egyptians. Every year, the Nile would flood their farmlands, covering everything with a thick layer of silt. They had to come up with a reliable way to figure out where the property lines had been, so they could get back to the business farming...thus was born Geometry.

The principles remain unchanged, and I made my living for several years in mine surveying. Accurate mine surveying is a matter of life-and-death, as the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile demonstrated. A good background and confidence in Geometry is also crucial if you're interested in any branch of Engineering or Chemistry (e.g.: 3-D chemical bond agles.) Thanks for your interest!

Microsoft Windows

I have been using PCs since before Windows existed. If you want to learn the basics of Windows, or go deeper into the workings of your computer, I'm your man. I started programming computers with punch cards, and I worked as a Research Engineer at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University for eight years.

I studied Physics at Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh. The first time I really appreciated having retained some of what I studied was at Flight School, in Pensacola. Everything in Aerodynamics and Navigation was straight out of Physics class! I love teaching Physics, and a good education in Physics will DEFINITELY help, with all your other science classes. I have been tutoring Physics every year, for the last eight years. Thanks for considering working with me; I look forward to speaking with you!

Public Speaking

I have years of experience, speaking publicly and coaching students in Public Speaking. I have presented research papers at conferences and taught Electronic Warfare in the Marine Corps. I was a Liaison Officer to foreign military services (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, England and France,) and had to present Situation Reports to foreign dignitaries on a daily basis. Speech is a skill which enhances a person's confidence and self-esteem, and is easily improved.

There are currently 18 different Regents exams for High School students in New York State. I have two years experience tutoring the Chemistry and the Geometry Regents exams, and I tutor both in New York and New Jersey currently. I know those two tests inside-out, and I look forward to adding more Regents exams to my curriculum. I can provide recommendations and references if needed.

Study Skills

I thought I had developed good study skills in college, but I did not realize what great study skills were until I went through U.S. military flight training and became a Naval Aviator. That's when I realized that the individual has the power to identify their individual learning styles and tailor their study materials and techniques to their own advantage. Also, Study Skills is a specific curriculum at Huntington Learning Center, which I have taught at two of their locations. I have also taught Study Skills for High School students at Pressley Ridge Schools, in Pennsylvania.

I am a life-long swimmer and proponent of water safety. The first lifesaving qualification I attained was in Boy Scouts, in 5th Grade. Since then, I became Water Survival Qualified (WSQ) by the U.S. Marine Corps, and then, Deep Water Environment Survival Training (DWEST) certified, by the U.S. Navy, in flight school.

After going back to civilian life, I became a Professional Rescuer and Ohiopyle State Park Certified White Water River Guide, while guiding hundreds of guests down the Youghiogheny River, in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. I am also a YMCA Lifeguard and a Boy Scouts of America White Water Merit Badge Instructor and Certifying Authority. I look forward to seeing you in the pool! Thanks for your interest.

I am currently tutoring TEAS subject matter, officially, for the School of Nursing at Holy Name Medical Center, in Teaneck, New Jersey. I am a designated remedial TEAS tutor, for students who have been conditionally accepted into the Nursing School, but scored lower than 70th percentile, in any area of the TEAS. Getting Ready for the SATs — Timothy made getting ready for the SATs enjoyable for my son. Timothy was very flexible with scheduling, which is very important to our family because we are always on the move. My son's scores climbed 10 to 20% in a few well-timed classes. He got what he needed to work outside the scheduled time, which was of great value to us. Timothy was sensitive to my son's learning style. The proof is in his ...
