Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified K-8 elementary teacher and I love to work with young children because many times their enthusiasm is so contagious and I love to be around that.

I have experience tutoring in all elementary subject areas such as Math, Science, English, Reading Comprehension and writing, and Social Studies. I enjoy them all at the elementary level and I try to help students enjoy them too.

General Computer

I have a Master's degree in Education with a discipline in Learning Technologies. So I have a love of integrating computers with all subject areas. I have a lot of patience for those who are new to computers and just need to learn the basics and I have a lot of creative ideas for those who already have some experience and need to practice using their computer skills.

Phonics

Phonics is such an important part of language arts. It's the building blocks of reading and I have a very good foundation in this area from my student teaching experience in a first grade classroom as well as even with teaching ESL. Getting students to look at the letters and sound out words and eventually read them is such a wonderful feeling for them to do it and for me to hear it.

Study Skills

I have helped many students in my tutoring experiences work on their study skill and study habits. If I can help teach a student how to best study for a test, then I am giving them quite a power for achieving success.

It depends on the subject, but a big part of teaching study skills, has to do with helping the student organize the information, possibly make flash cards/index cards so they can test themselves and make sure they understand the requirements for the upcoming test.

ESL/ESOL

I am so excited at the prospect of tutoring in ESL/ESOL! This area is definitely where I have my most experience and where my passion lies. I so enjoy teaching students English in all the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. I like to bring "realia" or real life "stuff" into the picture to help in teaching a specific content in English.
