I am a highly qualified tutor for all ages and levels of Math.
Here are my credentials:
I have earned an M.B.A. (graduating with honors) from Drexel University. I have recent experience as an Adjunct Professor of Statistics and Intermediate Algebra. I have specific experience of tutoring and preparing students (prospective teachers) to pass both the Praxis I and Praxis II math standardized test. I currently conduct SAT math preparation classes (group sessions) as well as SAT math prep on a one-to-one basis.
I am adept in teaching NJCCCS including:
1. Number and numerical operations;
2. Geometry and measurement;
3. Patterns and algebra;
4. Data analysis, probability and discrete mathematics;
5. Mathematical processes;
I am a provider of experienced, professional one-on-one attention. I have the ability to present math concepts in a simple, step-by-step approach that those who are "math averse" can understand. I am patient with students and have tutored students ranging from elementary school age through PhD candidates. I am flexible and will work around the student's schedule. I have successfully tutored statistics over the telephone with no visual stimulus.
The following four sections are the only sections that contribute to your AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score, and your AFQT score determines if you are eligible to enlist in the Armed Forces.
1, Arithmetic Reasoning
2. Mathematics Knowledge
3. Word Knowledge
4. Paragraph Comprehension
I am currently tutoring others who are preparing to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. I am a math specialist who is adept at breaking down arithmetic reasoning problems and mathematics knowledge-related problems for those math-averse students.
I can also help with word knowledge and paragraph comprehension.
I recently was Adjunct Professor at a local community college having taught Introduction to Statistics for two years.
I recently tutored a very worried graduate (Masters Program) student (in a nursing program) to success in an on-line Bio-Statistics course project. She earned a "A" for the course.
Also, earlier this year, I helped an Anesthesiology Nursing Graduate Student in her on-line Biostatistics course and the result was that she scored the highest overall average of any student in her class and earned an "A" for her final grade.
I can help you to understand and apply statistical concepts through proven ways that I have refined for explaining these concepts in simple, understandable terms.
I have experience in teaching and tutoring the following concepts in discrete mathematics:
Number Theory including prime numbers and prime factoring
Combinations and Permutations
Binary code and hexidecimal conversion
Linear algebra. (Cramer's Rule)
Sample space (decision tree)
Mathematical logic is a subfield of mathematics. This includes, but is not limited to, set theory, proofs (such as in geometry) and model theory. Much of the SAT test includes testing the students' reasoning and logic skills. Over the past 7 years, I have tutored many hundreds of students in developing these skills. I incorporate many math "tricks" and test taking techniques that I have developed through my extensive tutoring experience.
I have recently tutored students for the math portion of Praxis I and Praxis II in elementary, middle school and high school test versions. I have techniques of breaking down concepts in very simple, easy-to-understand terms for those "math-averse" students. In one situation, I helped a student pass after failing four times prior to working with me.
I have taught Introduction to Statistics which includes Probability for two years at the community college level. Through hundreds of hours of teaching and tutoring this subject, I have developed ways of communicating these concepts in easy-to-understand methods. Concepts I am especially adept at communicating include the following: sample space (decision tree), "AND" (intersection) versus "OR" (union), Venn Diagram and conditional probability.
I currently tutor groups of students to prepare them for taking the math portion of the SAT test. I have techniques of breaking down concepts in very simple, easy-to-understand terms for those "math-averse" students. I can translate that skill set to the preliminary SAT test (PSAT).
I know the following concepts (as examples, not an all-inclusive list):
1. Descriptive vs. Inferential Statistics
2. Frequency Distribution
3. Measures of Center
4. Z-Score calculation
5. Student-t distribution
6. Hypothesis Testing full procedure (test of proportion, population mean and standard deviation (Chi-Square).
7. Probability including Bayes' Theorem, Venn Diagram and Sample Space
8. Binomial Probability Distribution
9. Permutations vs. Combinations
10. Confidence Interval
11. alpha vs. beta error
12. Minimum quantity and error
13. Simple Linear Regression Analysis
14. Correlation Coefficient
15. ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)
I recently taught Introduction to Statistics at Burlington (NJ) County College (8 semesters from 2004 to 2006) and have successfully tutored statistics and biostatistics up through the PhD level. You will find numerous statistics and biostatistics student testimonials on my WyzAnt profile.
I am not an expert in entering data into statistical software (SPSS, MS EXCEL STAT, TI-84, etc), but I can properly analyze most of the results.

The Right Tutor. Great Effort. Great Results. — The job of a tutor is not simply to present the material; rather it is to ensure that the pupil understands and can apply the lesson learned. This requires that the tutor be able to match his method of teaching and explanation to match the individual student's needs. I'm thrilled to say that Ira was able to do this with great skill. Though our daughter had fairly good mastery of many concepts ...
