Hi! My name is Varun, and I am currently an Applied Mathematics Major at The College of New Jersey. I have been tutoring Mathematics and the Sciences for about 6 years now, covering subjects ranging from but not limited to Algebra I, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus and Linear Algebra. In addition to tutoring students one on one, I have also worked in groups at various tutoring centers. Additionally, I have had the privilege of working with inmates at the Jones Farm Prison in Trenton, NJ, helping them master material to attain their G.E.D over the period of one year.

In order to effectively help a student reach his or her academic goals, it is vital that a course of action is established with that student, with a problem-oriented approach being utilized. Rather than spending crucial time lecturing the student on the course material, it is important for tutors to spend the majority of their time working through problems, and seeing where the student is struggling. This is accomplished through the use of tutorial videos that the student can use to refresh the material on their own time, practice problems that are relevant to what is being taught, and practice tests to ensure that the material has been mastered.

Some of my accomplishments in the field of Mathematics have included a PSAT/SAT Math score of 800 and 790 respectively, being a 2 time AMC regional Mathematics Competition champion.

I have enjoyed tutoring Math particularly because my love for it. Sharing that with other people has been a great experience, and something I still take joy in doing. I look forward to working with you/your child!

Other Hobbies:I am an avid traveler, and enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

ACT Math

During my time as a tutor, I have had the privilege of working with students from a wide array of backgrounds and learning styles. Along with helping in one-on-one and group environments in homes and schools, I got to tutor inmates at the Jones Farm Prison in Trenton, NJ who were working towards their GEDs. This has taught me to adapt to particular situations requiring special attention, and alter my style according to the student's individual needs.

Algebra 1

I am currently a tutor for a student struggling in Algebra I. The student's grade significantly improved upon beginning tutoring. References available upon request.

Calculus

I have been a private and group calculus tutor for the past 4 years, with great success.

Chemistry

I have worked in a Chemistry research lab at TCNJ, which required a lot of application of the concepts of Chemistry

Hindi

I am the child of two persons who are natives of India, and who spoke Hindi before they learned how to speak English. Growing up, I was forced to speak Hindi in the household, and became fluent in it before I spoke English. I taught myself how to read and write Hindi as well, because of my own curiosity. I am capable of fluently speaking, and reading and writing the language.

Linear Algebra

I am an Applied Mathematics major at The College of New Jersey, and completed the Linear Algebra course with the MatLab supplement last year with a great score. I feel I have been able to take away the concepts I learned in that year and apply them well in the classes I am taking now. In addition to applying the concepts in my current course, I am applying the MatLab programming skills I took away as well.

SAT Math

I have tutored 3 students in the past for the SAT, all of whom were happy with the results. Personally, I scored a 790 on the Math SAT section, and a 800 on the math SAT II test.
