Believe in yourself! Do your best! Enjoy school! Be prepared for your SAT or ACT test. Believe in yourself. That's right. Your confidence level has everything to do with academic, sports and even business success. How you feel influences what you know and what you know influences how you feel. Struggling with school work, having test anxiety are two inter-related problems that I can show you how to solve. Not only am I a great tutor, I am a great counselor who will motivate your son or daughter to do his or her best in school, sports and whatever he or she sets his or her mind on. If your son or daughter is struggling with his or her studies, I can get to the underlying issue and resolve it quickly so both grades, feelings, attitude and behavior improves. Academic support is central to this effort. Often, students are easily distracted in school, making learning from even the best of teachers a challenge. As your tutor, I become your child's advocate for academic success. While I will challenge him or her to always do his or her best and help with academic understandings, I will provide an entire array of skill sets from note taking to organization to study to test taking that not only captures his or her interests but is tailored to his or her learning style. Whether your child has a diagnosed or undiagnosed learning disability or not, your child will improve his or her academic abilities by first becoming ever more confident than ever before, be empowered by an array of study, organizational and test taking skills; third, overcome or adapt to real or perceived learning challenges.

I am a certified teacher with 15 years experience teaching and tutoring students from grades Kindergarten through High School and beyond. I am the warm, seasoned teacher that most parents would want for their children and teens. I teach with love and compassion for my students, bringing out their best, focusing on raising their spirits, broadening their horizons and expanding their opportunities by improving their academic credentials (grades). A better understanding of the subject matters for high school students, improved reading and math skills for middle schoolers and excellent basic skills in both reading and math for elementary school students are my areas of focus for all my students. I have experience as a reading and writing specialist, helping students improve their reading abilities as well as writing skills. I am able to help with specific assignments and/or provide specific lessons of instruction for reading and writing skills. I tutor all levels of math through Algebra 2, with a true passion for teaching pre-algebra, number theory and most elementary and middle school math.

With respect to Test Prep, I tutor one-on-one and spend as much time on the types of test questions and areas that translate into high test scores. I am experienced at teaching for the SAT, SSAT, ACT, PSAT, SAT II, COOP tests. I show you proven skills, tips, tricks and strategies to improve your score. I show you how to expand your vocabulary, know the 6 vital bits of information for every passage-based question on the SAT and what every question REALLY means on the SAT. I can help with all areas of the SAT and ACT. With the SAT.

Now, for those students who have ADD/ADHD, I am the tutor who can and will make your school life better. Whether you are on meds or not, I will show you how to improve your grades, stay focused. I'll review your lessons (all subjects), improve your skills and you will see that you can do better than ever before. As your tutor, you can lean on me for support. However, after a while, you won't have to; you'll be able to do it all on your own and your grades, confidence and awesome feeling are the proofs of your success.

Move from the discomfort of academic worries to the feelings that only come with confidence and success. Through tutoring comes a better understanding. From counseling comes the strength and courage to improve in areas in our lives that we wish to make changes. As a teacher and counselor (academic, personal change and other areas), I show you how to end the academic struggle, improve your academic credentials and prepare you for those all important college entrance exams (SAT/ACT tests) as well as pass the AP (Advanced Placement) tests. (By the way, I was trained by the College Board in AP U.S. History).

I provide comprehensive tutoring in reading comprehension (including decoding, inference skills), writing skills (sentence structure, paragraph writing, essay writing) for elementary and middle school students. I use special computer software that adapts to your child's needs. I also use special books and materials so that your son or daughter improves his or her reading and math abilities exponentially! I can also provide homework support for your child's current assignments.

After each lesson, you will receive a summary of the lesson through WyzAnt. I use WyzAnt as a means to communicate with parents. I take the time to let you know what we have been working on and what I feel we should be working on next. I am always open to feedback as I wish to make the tutoring experience as productive (and as fun) as possible.

In conclusion, if you are seriously considering having a tutor, if you truly want someone who not only knows his subject areas (I tutor elementary school, middle school -- 7th grade teacher for many years -- and high school -- high school teacher for many years --) but truly takes an interest in his students, please contact me through WyzAnt. I would be delighted to help your student with his academics and test prep.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
