I am a recent graduate of Bard College where I studied both Political Studies and Film & Electronic Arts. Studying these two very different subjects allowed me to explore and integrate my creative and academic sides. At Bard I participated in a tutoring program for middle school and high school students in Hudson, NY for about 2 years. I tutored nearly every pre-college education subject including writing, psychology, history, biology, and math. Being a tutor and student at the same time gave me a deeper insight into more effective learning processes. To me, tutoring is not just about getting perfect grades; it is about understanding that each person has a different learning process and working to make the best of that process.

Vocabulary

Improving vocabulary skills is about practice, application, and association. We understand words and their meanings by using them in everyday life, and associating their meanings with other words and contexts. It is all about practice and repetition.

Grammar

Grammar is about practice, practice, and practice. The more you read, the more you can internalize grammatical rules and patterns.

Writing

Writing is about practice and clarity. Learning how to express ideas in a straightforward way is key to becoming an efficient and intelligent writer. Editing and re-writing are a big part of this process. Don't be afraid to make mistakes!

Literature

Literature is a complex and versatile discipline. From first person narrative to more experimental prose, the only constant is our ability to interpret the text as we wish. This is the beauty of literature; it is an ever-changing interaction. Make it your own.

SAT Writing

The SAT Writing section requires a combination of skills. It is crucial to maintain clarity and confidence in your writing while keeping in mind that the test is time-sensitive. Always be clear and assertive when getting your point across.

ACT Reading

ACT reading is a very specific kind of skill. It is about knowing how to take the test, and extracting the most straightforward response. Simplicity and efficiency are key.

Video Production

I studied Film and Electronic Arts at Bard College. I edit or shoot for my own videos nearly everyday. When I am not working on my own projects, I am often studying the works of great directors, actors, and video artists of our time. I have completed several short videos, video installations, and live video performances. I am proficient in Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop CS6, and DVD Studio Pro.
