I am a mother of three teenaged sons in Middletown New Jersey and a former homeschooling parent. I have over 15 years experience in early childhood education and have passed the Praxis II in Early Childhood Content Knowledge grades preschool - 3 and also the Paraprofessional Assessment. I am currently employed as a prekindergarten teacher and have experience working with school aged children from K-6 in an aftercare setting. I currently hold an associates degree in ECE, a Bachelors in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Christian Education. I have earned the Child Development Specialist Credential through the Council for Professional Recognition. As a 4H club leader I love teaching, believe that children learn by doing, and I encourage a love of learning in others. Will offer tutoring in the public library.
My educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies and a Master's in Christian Education. Although I specialize in teaching adult learners in Biblical Studies my Master Thesis was written with regards to the value of Christian Education in Early Childhood Education. I have experience teaching adult Bible Studies and have had opportunities to tutor and lead small groups and individual studies.
As a school age after care instructor and paraprofessional, I have tutored and instructed students in grades K-6th in the subjects of language arts, math, science and social studies. Tutoring and homework help is available in mathematical concepts: arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry, measurement, data organization and interpretation. Language arts skill areas include: phonics, increasing reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing.
As a prekindergarten teacher I am experienced with teaching phonics beginning at age 4 through ten. Using a systematic approach to introduce each letter, sound and blends will reinforce learning sounds through stringing sounds together to make words. The most commonly used letters are taught first with single sounds, moving on to letters with more than one sound including vowels. Word families are taught with words ending with the same sounds. Students learn through practice, worksheets and reading simple phonetic stories which encourage learning and introduce commonly used sight words.
In my seventeen years of early childhood education experience I have taught children to read using a balanced approach which includes narration, sight word recognition and phonetic skills and awareness. The use of phonics readers, worksheets and related activities introduce new letter and sound recognition while reinforcing information that has been previously learned. I have an educational background in teaching literacy and have passed the Praxis II in Early Childhood Content Knowledge. Children learn to read while they also learn to write and I incorporate both literacy skills in my approach to tutoring in the subject of reading.
