I am currently a K-6 English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) teacher and am in my 9th year of teaching. My teaching experience includes teaching 5th grade, ESL at the middle school level, and pre-school. It also includes a diverse learner population including but not limited to new English language learners, students with special needs, students with dyslexia, and students with ADD/ADHD.

I have been involved in various tutoring and enrichment programs. Some of this experience has been with enhancing study skills, preparing for state tests, and working with below proficient students. I have a year of Orton Gillingham training (a multisensory and kinesthetic approach to teaching) that has helped my students who require tutoring in reading, phonics, writing, phonemic awareness, and spelling.

I love teaching and work hard at making it interesting for all learners. I believe student feedback is essential and pride myself in successfully engaging all students. I understand a student’s success is based on the individual’s growth and work diligently in helping all learners reach their personal goals. Some of my techniques include use of visuals, technology, hands on experiences, mnemonic devices, music, and other multisensory methods. My lessons are also scaffolded to ensure learners success.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how we can work together to help your child make positive growth and change.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold a K-5 Elementary Education certification. I have taught 5th grade and currently teach in a K-6 setting. Although I am an ESL teacher I am required to co-teach and assist all students in the classes I work in. This requires me to understand and implement grade level common core state standards along with WIDA stadards.

ESL/ESOL

Master's in Education with a concentration in English as a Second Language.

Phonics

I have had a year of Orton Gillingham training. This training was hands on and I have used this experience with my K-8 students. I have also had experience with phonics during my Master's program.

Study Skills

Part of my ESL and Orton Gillingham training was understanding that study skills are not intuitive and need to be taught. I have used visuals, examples, and demonstrations of various techniques for studying.

Excellent Tutor — Ms. Jasmine has been tutoring my son who is in 1st grade for the past 5+ months and she is doing a fantastic job. She came over one day and spoke to us to understand what we needed from her. Then she came up with a plan customized for my son and started working with him. She and my son bonded from Day 1. Jasmine is amazing in what she does and has a great passion for it, which reflects in her cl ...
