Rutgers University - BA in Mathematics (Mathematics)
Rutgers University Graduate School - MS in Statistics (Master's)
I am looking for college students to tutor in daytime. Catch me now before the end of the semester rush.
I have both a BA in Mathematics and an MS in Statistics from Rutgers University. I have been tutoring math since 1991 and statistics since 2003. I also have my Certificate of Eligibility for Secondary School Mathematics from the State of NJ. I tutor part-time but I am actually a bio-statistician by profession. I have tutored over 150 different students - anywhere from a few weeks to 5 years in duration. I can supply references if needed.
I believe that effective communication and a supportive environment is crucial to a good teaching/learning relationship. I don't mind questions, in fact I encourage them at any time!I see learning as a 2-way street. It is the students responsibility to stop me immediately and ask questions if he/she does not understand. It is my responsibility, in response, to answer those questions and find a new way of explaining the problem so he/she does understand it. I believe a student should be able to "talk" mathematics as well as "write" it. I am picky when it comes to using the correct terminology, but it is done with a supportive attitude and with good humor! I am very easy going and approachable!
My philosophy regarding math is as follows: it is a fantastic way of looking at the world and also improves necessary critical thinking skills in a student. In my opinion, nearly everyone can learn math if given the correct support and instructional methods. Let me share this great world with you! I am looking for college students to tutor in daytime. Catch me now before the end of the semester rush.

When my daughter got back to school after an extended absence, it didn't take but a moment to decide how to get her caught up with the class. Contact Mike. He understood the situation and wasted no time in scheduling a tutoring session. He is reliable, uses the entire hour productively, and according to my 16 year old he explains the concepts in a way that is easy to understand. He even comes prepared with some of his own materials. We are REALLY happy that we found him!!!
I gain a high level of confidence when Mike explains difficult to understand statistics concepts. I struggle learning statistics on my own but Mike is my go to person to learn and get through this difficult class.
We were extremely happy that we started Precalc with Mr. O. As soon as the class got over, we could see our daughter coming out with big smiles as if she is ready to take on more challenges.
Michael is extremely helpful and it really good at explaining theorems which helps you understand the full picture a lot better. He is so much better than my professor at teaching me what I learn in lecture and actually feel like I learn way more from him than I ever do from my professor. Furthermore he is really flexible and respectful of my time and things like that. He also has a really good price so overall hes a really awesome tutor and I recommend him highly to anyone looking for a tutor. Oh and another good thing about him is that if you don't happen to fully understand something when he first explains it he always knows how to show you in different ways how to understand it which in turn gives me a better idea of the bigger picture.
Michael O. is very patient, Methodical and a great tutor. Our kids really like his style of tutoring. he takes time to make them understand the subject emphasizing on the right techniques.
He is very flexible and accommodating. Very patient and makes sure you get it before he moves on. Works with my child and encourages her to excel. Always on time and well prepared.
This is our 2nd year with him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have used SAS in Graduate school for 4 years. I have taken 5 classes through the SAS Institute to prepare and pass my SAS certification exams. I earned my Base SAS certification in April 2010 and I plan to pass my Advanced certification exam by September 2010.
