I have both a BA in Mathematics and an MS in Statistics from Rutgers University. I have been tutoring math since 1991 and statistics since 2003. I also have my Certificate of Eligibility for Secondary School Mathematics from the State of NJ. I tutor part-time but I am actually a biostatistician by profession. I have tutored over 70 different students - anywhere from a few weeks to 5 years in duration. I can supply references if needed.

I believe that effective communication and a supportive environment is crucial to a good teaching/learning relationship. I don't mind questions, in fact I encourage them at any time!I see learning as a 2-way street. It is the students responsibility to stop me immediately and ask questions if he/she does not understand. It is my responsibility, in response, to answer those questions and find a new way of explaining the problem so he/she does understand it. I believe a student should be able to "talk" mathematics as well as "write" it. I am picky when it comes to using the correct terminology, but it is done with a supportive attitude and with good humor! I am very easy going and approachable!

My philosophy regarding math is as follows: it is a fantastic way of looking at the world and also improves necessary critical thinking skills in a student. In my opinion, nearly everyone can learn math if given the correct support and instructional methods. Let me share this great world with you!
