Princeton University - graduated with B.A. (Astrophysics)
Over the past year, I have tutored more than a dozen students at all academic levels (K-12 & undergrad). I enjoy watching my students learn and grow over time, as they begin to grasp new material and develop an affinity for learning. I strive to imbed a deeper understanding of most subjects than is usually covered in a standard curriculum so that any kind of problem can be tackled, both within courses and outside of them.
My areas of expertise are primarily math and science, having studied both extensively as an astrophysics major at Princeton University. I am also skilled in many other subjects, including my native language, Spanish. Over the past year, I have worked with students in various areas, ranging from algebra, calculus, chemistry, and physics to English and US History. I also specialize in standardized test prep (SAT/ACT/ISEE/GRE).
On the side, I continue to extend my own education by taking classes of interest through Coursera, Udacity, and other online learning communities. Currently, I am also in the early stages of developing a web startup. As a result, my schedule is fairly flexible and I am able to accommodate individual circumstances on a case by case basis. Excellent tutor. My son was sick for 2 weeks and missed school. He didn't want to fall behind. We found Juan and had a 2 hour session. He brought my son right up to speed. Looking forward to the next session sometime this coming week.
Juan is a very detailed oriented and motivated tutor. He really wants to see his pupils perform well on test and makes sure that they understand the information covered in class. Sometimes Juan ran a little late, but this was due to Juan providing tutorials to other students.
We appreciated the assistance and additional instruction that Juan provided for our daughter.
Juan was a huge help with our son in precalculus He rearranged his schedule to tutor our son. He was patient and knew the subject matter. He explained it and kept it interesting for our son. Thanks to him, our son passed the final and the course and graduated on time. Thanks so much! I definitely recommend him to everyone.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
