I believe that everyone should have a well balanced education and I am extremely proud to be able to say that I have helped several students over the past 5 years progress towards that mark. Starting late in my high school career, and going through my years at Carnegie Mellon University, I have tutored in all areas of math and science from the Middle School level to 3-dimensional Calculus in college. I even have experience in home schooling.
My primary goal as a tutor is simple: To help the student understand the basic concepts at work. In order to do this I try to relate the work to the student's life and interests, and I work under a "do it 'til it's right" philosophy. I relate the work to interests because of a fundamental approach to education. No one should feel forced to learn, but everyone should want to learn. You can not want to learn unless you are interested in the material.
The student's education is of the utmost importance. For this reason I always leave the door open for feedback from the students and parents. One's journey should always be guided by the group, not an individual.
I am rather flexible when it comes to time and locations. Although I exercise a 24 hour cancellation policy, any sessions cancelled afterwards can be made up on another date of your choosing. If sessions were scheduled over a week in advance I will often confirm a session on the previous day. As for location, I am willing to work anywhere the students and parents feel most comfortable, provided I can get there.
I wish you luck on your academic endeavors, and look forward to guiding you to a better understanding.
