Dear Student:
My name is Fernanda and I am a patient and effective (native speaker) Portuguese tutor.
From all my personal, academic and professional background, I learned that working as a collaborative team is one of the best ways to learn a language. I believe that all individuals have their own talents and unique perspectives about the same subject, considering their abilities, culture, and so forth. Consequently, the exchange of information brings a more enriched solution when building the best response toward the student needs. That’s why I am always eager to provide the most efficient contribution in order to share my Portuguese knowledge and see my students speaking a new language and achieving their personal, academic or professional goals. Furthermore, I would say that the role related to communication is continuously emphasized as a multifaceted entity when able to effectively transmit, receive and process the multiple forms of information. It is, therefore, essential to grasp that learning is conceived from people for people, as the richest amalgam of culture, life and beauty, so it is crucial to have a sensitive approach in order to meet students’ expectations.
As a graduate from one of the most prestigious universities in Brazil –whose selection process is extremely competitive and demands great preparation–, I worked on different projects -individually and in group- demonstrating the ability to solve problems, communicating and interfacing with a wide range of people. Moreover, I was exposed to the environment of a very demanding university -a reference pertaining research and publications- which provided me with the perfect ambience to fully enhance my writing skills. In fact, along with architecture, I have been permanently connected to writing since very young, which led me to be proficient not only in Portuguese but also in Spanish. On the other hand, for about two years, I worked as a teacher assistant/researcher led by a Ph.D. professor during my graduation. This project required a keen and detail-oriented focus throughout the whole process. As a result of this dedicated work, the research was selected and recognized for its high quality by a jury consisting of professors from different universities and I received a distinction award as the best contribution in this field.
My work philosophy relies on integrity, respect for others, open-mindedness, personal growth, and always doing one's best. Thus, one of my constant objectives is to strive to effectively conjugate the innumerable aspects involving a pleasant learning process with outstanding results.
