My name is Johnny, and I love to study history and different cultures of the world. My hobbies include physical exercises such as thirty-minutes of gentle and strength yoga, and a half-hour run around the local park.
I work as a part-time English tutor at Hudson County Community College, where I often build adult students’ motivation in their academic abilities, making them independent learners. Also, I’ve worked as a youth counselor at an after-school program in Lower Manhattan, where I've counseled children on appropriate behaviors and model social skills for them such as team-work. I have a proven record of managing classrooms, from kindergarten to eighth grade, as a Substitute and Student-Teacher.
My tutoring methods consist mainly of the socratic-method of questioning, where I guide the student with the understanding of what improvements are necessary for comprehending the topic. Also, I focus my tutoring objectives on the fundamentals of any subject provided, where the student and I move further into the task by fully understanding the basics of it. For example, it would be necessary for a student to understand the sentence, before writing a paragraph; and to understand the paragraph, before writing an essay.
