I am currently an upper school math teacher with 6 years of experience teaching all math courses from prealgebra to Calculus 3. I earned my BS in Mathematics from Oakland University, my MA in Economics from Central Michigan University and M.Ed from Tennessee State University. As a undergraduate student, I was a tutor and TA for the mathematics department at my school. I believe that tutoring is an extension of teaching, which needs to be done with care and patience.
I have taught children as young as 12 to adults in college math courses. My style is varied to the student as I don't believe in a one-size-fits all type of experience. I know what it feels like to teach very talented students and students who struggle in math. I have taught students with various learning disabilities throughout the years and aim to make every student feel comfortable. I encourage students to take ownership of their learning by asking them guided questions. I also enjoy when students ask me questions! There is no such thing as a “dumb question” in my instruction; it is my job as an educator to answer all questions.
I study math and tutor it because math is a wonderful language that opens doors to great things. Critical thinking skills are developed and refined through math, and the subject shows up in many other disciplines. Math is not just for a certain type of person, but for everyone that works hard at it. Let me share my talents with you today!
