My name is Andrew and I have an extremely diverse background. My career started as a Computer Systems Administrator for the Corporate World including companies such as IBM, AT&T, Merrill Lynch and others. After working in NYC for six years and after the 9/11 incident in 2001, I changed my career goals to teaching. I became a teaching assistant in the Hillsborough School District for two years while obtaining my teaching certification in K-8. I then continued my education by obtaining a Masters Degree in Educational Technology and proceeded to complete a PhD program in Educational Technology, which is nearly completed. While I was obtaining my Masters Degree and credit towards my PhD, I worked in several capacities as a teacher in Social Studies, Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science in many grade levels. In addition, I was a teacher of Computers in an Elementary School environment for 1 year. I have recently been working at Community Colleges in the area teaching Literacy and Mathematics. I am hoping to obtain a full-time faculty position, once my PhD is complete. I am extremely personable and work well in a 1 student to 1 teacher environment. I enjoy teaching and have a passion for helping students with all types of issues regarding their schooling and education.

ACT English

I have taught several students in preparation for the ACT Test over the past five years. I use materials that have been proven to be effective in preparation for the test. The reason for using these materials is that they break down the concepts into components, which is the methodology I utilize when teaching. Most of my students perform very well after a short time of preparation with me.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught at the Elementary Education level for the last 6 years. I have taught in various capacities including Social Studies, Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science. In addition, I was a Computer Teacher for a K-5 School in Morristown. I am currently a certified Elementary School Teacher in NJ with a K-8 Certification for all subjects. I also have experience as an Instructional Aide in Elementary School grades for 3 years.

Study Skills

I have taught a Study Skills class for age groups of 8 through 14 for the past four years in a Continuing Education program. I am extremely familiar with Study Skills methodologies and implementations.

Golf

I have played golf for the last 20 years. In addition, I have taught Golf to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of multiple age groups. I usually score around 100 strokes for 18 holes of Golf and have played at several Country Clubs in the US as well as in the Caribbean. In addition, I have taught several people the fine points of Golf and how to play effectively.

Special Needs

I worked with an Autistic Program in the Hillsborough School District for 3 Years. In addition, my Masters Degree is in Education with a Specialization in Assistive Technology and the PhD in which I am completing is in Education with a Specialization in Assistive Technology. Assistive Technology is the use of Technology to assist Special Needs students, so that they can obtain a similar education to mainstream students.

Baseball

I played baseball since I was 10 years old. In addition, I managed my son's baseball team in which that team went on to win the World Series. I have watched baseball games most of my life (up to 35 years) and played the game as well as managed for several years.

Hebrew

I have been speaking Hebrew for over thirty years, in addition to teaching Religious School to various grade levels for the past twelve years. I have also taught Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah classes in order to prepare them for conversion or marriage. In addition, I currently tutor several students in preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Web Design

I have been teaching Web Design for the last 6 years to several age groups from 6th grades to adults. In addition, I have developed several web sites as a Computer Systems Administrator, in which I held that post for 12 years.

Chess

I have been playing chess for several years since I was 10 years old. I am now 43, so I have played chess for 33 years. I am fairly proficient but I have not competed on a Local, National or International level. I also know the fundamentals and the movement of the pieces extremely well.

Poker

When I was first allowed to gamble, I learned the finer points of how to play poker and win. I used to hold weekly poker games with my friends in which I used to win all of the time. In addition, when my friends were able to gamble, I taught them how to play and they would win as well. I also, played while I was in College with my fellow classmates.

Saxophone

I have played the Alto saxophone for the last 14 years and am extremely proficient in playing notes and composition.

Networking (Computer)

I was a Network Systems Administrator for 12 years as my first career. I have setup networks from simple netwroks in offices to network platforms in large corporations. I am familiar with LAN hardware/software, WAN software/hardware and connectivity protocols.

Business

My Bachelors Degree is in Business Administration. In order to receive this degree, I took various business related courses in Accounting, Finance, Marketing etc. In addition, I worked in the Corporate World as a Systems Administrator for AT&T, IBM, Merrill Lynch and several others. I also owned two businesses for a total of 13 years including performing all facets of the business (financial and administrative).

Martial Arts

I have taken Martial Arts, specifically Tae Kwon Do, and have earned the belt rank of Red Belt with two black stripes. I am a black belt candidate and will be earning a black belt in Dec of this year.

Public Speaking

I have taught many classes in Public Speaking through Continuing Education of several Community Colleges. In addition, as an English teacher in High School, I have assisted the Public Speaking teacher several times over the course of the year with the students' pronunciation of words within speeches. Also, I have spoken at several events including school graduations, business functions and other events where there have been several people in attendance.

Career Development

Career Development for students has always been an interest of mine, due to the fact that a good portion of students, who are prepared to graduate High School and College have no idea what Career to choose. I used to advise students at a Community College in which I worked for several years. In addition, many of my friends have asked me for assistance with directing their careers as well.

Computer Science

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems (Business Computer Science). My first career in the field of Computer Science consisted of the following positions: Computer Systems Analyst, Computer Programmer (COBOL, JCL) and a Computer Systems Administrator (Desktop - Windows, LAN - Novelle, Cisco and UNIX, and WAN technologies). I spent 12 years in my first career before changing over to Education.

Microsoft Access

In my first career, I spent 6 years as a Computer Systems Administrator/Database Administrator. One of my responsibilities was to create and maintain MS Access Databases that contain personnel information. In addition, I would need to generate queries and reports for the Managers of the Department at their request. Microsoft Windows

I have been in the field of technology for the past thirty years and have worked with and taught from the original Microsoft Windows software (Windows 386) to the current Windows Operating System (Windows 7). I also teach several Windows based software application classes for Continuing Education Depts in 3 local Community Colleges.

Praxis

I am currently certified in the State of NJ as an Elementary/Middle School Teacher for grades K through 8. I took the Praxis 1 test, where I scored extremely high and have prepared several current teachers in order for them to pass the Praxis Test.

UNIX

For my first 12 years of my 1st career, I was a Computer Systems Administrator in which I had to administrate several UNIX machines of various types including HP, AT%T/NCR, Sun, and IBM. I also developed a Disaster Recovery Backup platform which included 11 UNIX Server machines and an entire networking platform. In addition, I am a certified UNIX Administrator through AT%T.

Social Studies

I have taught Elementary School, specifically 5th grade for over six years and one of my charges is to teach Social Studies. I have taught Social Studies to over 120 students each year over the past six years. The Social Studies curriculum includes exploration of the State of NJ, coverage of The American Revolution and lastly teaching about The US Constitution and The Declaration of Independence. In addition, 5th grade students learn about Native American tribes.

Microsoft Project

In my first career as a Computer Systems Analyst/Programmer at AT&T, one of my responsibilities was to create project plans for software releases that were being implemented.
