For the past six years, I have been involved in education, first working at a Sylvan Learning Center as a receptionist and then a tutor, and then as a leave replacement business teacher in a high school for the fall semester in 2012. More recently, I have been working as a substitute teacher in two districts, and from January – April, I worked as a high school replacement math teacher, instructing Algebra II, among other math courses.
In addition, I have obtained my Provisional License as a Teacher of Comprehensive Business and my Certificate of Eligibility as a Teacher of Mathematics from the New Jersey Department of Education. My expertise is in business subjects and math, but I am also knowledgeable in other topics, including writing, grammar, and history. I am particularly qualified in AP Calculus, pre-calculus, algebra I, and accounting.
My approach to tutoring is two-fold. First, I like to see what my students know and assess the areas in which they need assistance. I tend to quickly gain a great rapport with my students, which in turn, allows for a more successful tutoring experience. Once an initial assessment is done, I always come prepared with materials and relevant worksheets in case a student forgets to bring home a textbook or calculator, or if it is the summer. By introducing the topic in a new way, providing individualized support, and working with my student's strengths and interests, my students are able to see a fresh approach at a concept and succeed by utilizing their tactile, auditory, or visual learning styles within the topic.
I am currently accepting and scheduling new students for the summer, beginning Monday, June 30. My availability is Monday-Friday 9 am – 11:30 am, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 pm – 6 pm. I will not be available, however, from July 12-16 or August 9-16. I look forward to working with your high school students and helping them succeed as they advance through their summer coursework or just want to get ahead in preparation for the 2014-2015 school year.
