My name is Mr. Mike. I have a Bachelor degree in History and a NJ Teaching Certificate. I work as a substitute teacher in several districts in Monmouth and Middlesex counties for grades K-12. I have over 6 years of experience tutoring all age groups in a variety of subjects. I have also spent 3 years working with special needs students one-on-one, in resource rooms, and in inclusive classrooms.

My areas of experience include: LA writing, History, NJASK test prep, Study Skills, Report-Essay writing, and time management. All lessons for students are customized to maximize the student's progress. The inclusion of parental participation is critical for the circle of learning to be successful. As work progresses, assessments of student progress are made and presented for parental review. Student and parental input are essential to student success.

Grammar

For a student to succeed in writing, correct grammar usage is essential. Based on my teaching experience, and as a lifelong learner, I can facilitate essential grammar usage skills, to enhance your reading and writing skills. As a technical writer, I have written many reports and procedures that are still in use today. As a student and teacher, I have written numerous essays, newsletters, and reports on a variety of subjects.

Reading

Success in reading involves concentration, realizing the importance of the positions of sentences within a paragraph, and understanding what a sentence is stating. My experience as a teacher and academic enrichment assistant has provided me with excellent on-the-job training to assist students of all levels. As a lifelong learner in college and professional development courses, reading is essential, and my years of experience have taught me well.

Writing

Writing involves planning, structure and variety. Planning involves understanding what is trying to be presented(answering a question). Structure is ensuring all ideas are presented in a logical fashion. Variety ensures the lack of repetitive descriptions, making the writing more interesting. I am also familiar with writing as it applies to NJASK and other testing.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a seasoned professional that has been a teacher or an instructor for many levels. At a NYC Community College, I tutored and taught young and old adults in math, reading, and writing.
