I am a highly qualified NJ certified teacher with 5 years of experience teaching English language and literature, SAT writing, critical reading,vocabulary, and grammar. I have also worked with ESL students building vocabulary and grammar skills. Teaching is my passion, and I love to help others learn and achieve their educational and life goals.

SAT preparation is a specialty of mine, and I would love to have the opportunity to assist you or your student in building your English language skills to improve your test scores. As an English teacher, I have had plenty of experience teaching the art of writing quality essays and proofreading for tricky grammar mistakes. It would be my pleasure to pass on this knowledge.

Vocabulary

A large and accessible vocabulary is an incredible tool. Not only will it improve your score on the SAT, it will improve your reading comprehension (you'll understand the big words), improve your writing (you can sound smarter by correctly using big words yourself), and it will give you a sense of self-confidence.

Reading

Reading is easily the most important skill a child learns in school and will have an impact on every other area of his schooling. Thus it is exceptionally important that every student master this vital skill. As a NJ certified Language Arts teacher with 5 years of classroom experience, I enjoy working with students of all ages and skill levels to build their understanding of the English language and their mastery of reading comprehension.

SAT Writing

SAT writing is all about building your vocabulary and mastering the rules of grammar that govern proper sentence structure. In my experience teaching the SAT, I have found that the best way to build a student's vocabulary is through a combination of rote memorization, reading in context, and using in context. Grammar, while tricky, is not impossible and requires exposure to proper grammar patterns and frequent practice using them.

Elementary Math

To me, elementary math is all about mastering the basics that will form the basis for all the more complicated math to come. It is exceptionally important for students to master the basic processes and facts, and I try to impart this importance to students while making the learning fun through lots of mental math games.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a NJ certified Elementary teacher and have 5 years experience teaching in the classroom, including grades 4-11. Subjects I have taught include English, Social Studies, Elementary Math, Elementary Science, Spelling, ESL, and writing.

Study Skills

I have taught 6th and 7th graders for 3 years in a Title I school where I was forced to take on many parental roles including teaching my students to organize their notebooks and binders, backpacks and agenda books. As a 6th grade homeroom teacher, it also fell to me to acquaint the new middle school students with the workings of a new school and how to adjust and succeed.

Bible Studies

I grew up in a church environment and have been actively reading the Bible as long as I have been reading. During middle school and high school, I won awards through Bible Quizzing for memorizing facts from the Bible and, later, large portions of text from the books of Hebrews, John, Romans, I & II Corinthians, and the Psalms. I also attended a Bible college for one year.

Social Studies

I am a NJ certified Social Studies teacher for grades K-12 and have 5 years' experience teaching Social Studies in the classroom to grades 5-7. My favorite areas to teach are geography, American history, and medieval history.
