I am a former teacher from the Los Angeles area who has recently moved to the Newark, NJ area. I have a B.A. In Liberal Studies (elementary school education) from CSUDH, graduating Magna Cum Laude with honors within the major. I have worked with students with varying interest and ability levels in multiple settings.
I have worked extensively in a non-profit after-school enrichment program (K-5), teaching multiple subjects, including environmental studies, ecology, life science, earth science, GATE science, Zome Tools, chess, woodworking, drama, music, art, math and literacy.
I have also taught math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry) at a private high school in addition to teaching Earth Science, Physical Science and Algebra I at a charter middle school, all of which are in the Los Angeles area. I have also served as a tutor for more than five years now.
I currently teach 1st grade at Marion P. Thomas Charter School in Newark, NJ. I have recently attained my NJ Certificate of Eligibility, the first step in gaining my NJ teaching certification. As I continue to work towards this goal, I wish to continue doing what I do best, which is educating students and showing them just how fun school can and should be.
My approach is to find what it is that interests your student the most and then utilizing that interest to facilitate a deeper and more meaningful learning experience. When students are engaged and have a sense of control, they are far more receptive to the experience of learning and tend to excel when given this opportunity.
I'm happy to discuss my methods and experience in greater detail. Please feel free to contact me and discuss you and your students needs and how I may be of service.
