I am a graduate of Temple University with a Bachelor's of Arts within Political Science and a Certificate within the Specialization of Writing. I have over 15 years of experience with children. I've taught writing techniques, grammar, and etiquette. I've received First Place within Temple University's Freshman essay contest, First Place within the Goals for Youth essay contest and I was published within Authors of Tomorrow in 2006. I have been writing books since I was eight years old and taught myself how to read at the age of 4. I've received the Creative Writers award in 2000, the History level I award in 2000, and a Math Award in 2003. I graduated number 20 within my high school graduating class of over 150 students.
My tutoring approach using hands on learning. When a student can use, see and apply what they've learned in a physical manner it is more likely they will retain information successfully. I've tutored English by proofreading, editing and allowing the student to read their material aloud. This method allows the student to hear their writing and critique it as it sounds different aloud. I believe in teaching by breaking down a problem step by step. A student will most likely understand the fundamentals of a problem if they know how each piece works. Looking at a problem as a whole can confuse or overwhelm a student.
I am also a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer. Health and exercise are also a strong part of success. If a student is healthy they will most likely be able to focus more and retain information. I can provide a healthy eating guide, exercise tips and motivational techniques to help your student grow. Foods that lack nutrients can alter the chemical balance of the brain causing depression, fatigue and lack of concentration. Good diet and exercise is the first step in academic success.
I am currently training to receive my black belt within the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do. I assist within class helping the younger, less experienced students. My teaching methods include breaking down the movements of the art, slow physical guides and written materials.
I would love to work with your student and provide them with the tools for success. Time, patience and knowledge are the keys to obtaining this success.
