I recently completed my Masters in German at the University of Pennsylvania. I have spent a great deal of time studying the German language - over nine years - throughout my academic career. As an undergraduate, I taught a variety of students ranging from entry-level to advanced. During my college career, I also studied at the University of Heidelberg in Heidelberg, Germany.
My near-native fluency in German enables me not only to teach basic grammar, but to also inform students on proper usage and pronunciation. I have worked with students of varying ages, from middle school age to adults, in a variety of settings. I favor an active approach to language learning which includes both rehearsal and repetition as well as explanation of grammatical concepts. I will gladly tailor tutoring sessions to the needs of the student, his or her level of experience with German, and to the teaching style of the student's classroom instructor. (Classroom methods may vary between teachers, and I have exposure to a variety of them, as well as the potential advantages and shortcomings of each.)
I believe in fostering an interactive, low-pressure tutoring environment which encourages students to take an active role in their own learning. I look forward to working with you or your student.
