My career as a writer and educator spans more than 25 years. I have published hundreds of articles for magazines in New York and New Jersey and am certified to teach English in both states.
I've got a passion for teaching and put a great deal of thought and prep work into tutoring. You will find me professional, nurturing, creative, and dedicated.
I use literature to develop language, writing, and grammar skills, selecting texts and designing assignments that facilitate reading comprehension and literary analysis. Beyond this, I equip students with the skills in argument and critical thinking they’ll need to navigate the world in college and during their careers.
I also provide test preparation for NJ ASK, PSAT/SAT, ACT, AP English, and Praxis I and II exams using proven strategies, texts, sample exams, and my own specially-created study materials.
When students require assistance with school exams, projects, and essays, I adapt lessons to meet their immediate needs. I also offer expert editing/writing services for junior research papers and college application essays.
Before I moved to New Jersey, I worked as a copywriter/director for educational book clubs in New York City. I graduated magna cum laude from Brooklyn College and am certified to teach grades K-12 English in New Jersey.
My mission: build confidence and boost skills. I've helped many clients raise their grades and test scores over the last three years. Please read the testimonials on my profile page.

I received a CEAS in English in March 2011 and have been tutoring students in language, reading, writing, NJ ASK/SAT/ACT/PRAXIS test preparation for WyzAnt for over two years. I also taught English for two months as a maternity leave replacement at the Magnet High School in Scotch Plains, NJ, in October 2012. I've got a passion for language and literature and an insight into how students learn best. I enjoy watching clients progress and have helped many improve their skills, grades, and test scores.
I'm a certified English teacher and published journalist with twenty-five years experience. I've helped many students write imaginative and concise college app essays which reflect their voice and words. Here's my approach: I interview students to capture the highlights of their lives and offer insightful essay writing strategies. Once clients prepare a draft of their essay, I edit their writing, and working together, we create a memorable essay to impress college administrators.
I have worked with many students from grades 3 through 6 and helped them improve writing, reading, and language arts skills. I'm a certified, experienced English teacher and professional journalist with extensive knowledge of quality children's literature and NJ curriculum standards. I develop engaging lessons which motivate students to learn and make connections between texts and their own lives. I teach to the multiple intelligences, varying skills and interests of all my students to facilitate success.
I am qualified to prepare students for the 0041 Eng Lang Lit Comp Content Knowledge Praxis test needed for certification to teach English in grades K-12. It is a two-hour test with 120 questions in three major content areas: Literature and Understanding Text, Language and Linguistics, Composition and Rhetoric. I took the exam in January 2011 and passed by over twenty points. I could provide essential coaching, timing and sample exams.

Recently, he has shown interest in reading, and bought a book for casual reading for the first time in his life. His grade in language arts has also improved since the tutoring started. We are very pleased ...
