I have been teaching Spanish, my native language, for many years. During my 11 years in Germany, I taught Spanish at different language schools. Currently I work as a part time Adjunct Professor at the local community college where I teach Spanish and sub for my German and French colleagues. I also tutor high school and middle school kids regularly. Additionally, since I am a Certified Spanish Teacher for the public schools, I work as a "sub" at 5 of the "magnet schools" of the county where I live.
My method in teaching all these languages is to speak as much as possible in the language I am teaching so that the students start communicating and learn how to apply what they are learning. I don't think grammar explanations can be neglected, but they don't become the basic element of my tutoring. I work with the student individually to help each one with their particular needs and weaknesses. My experience allows me to recognize in the first five minutes what they lack and what they are good in.
