Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I will provide your child with a structure and routine they can understand. If your child has trouble studying I will show you how to study with your child on days I am not there.
Sometimes kids simply need some insight and support with their daily academic challenges.

In my studies of K-12 education at Rowan University, I excelled in classes where a child's mindset and learning was key.
My education GPA WAS 3.98 overall.
I had three years of field experience in Southern Jersey elementary school and have tutored elementary aged children since.

Praxis

Having taken the Praxis I myself, I know it can be a daunting task.
I believe students need a well rounded coverage of each topic. The student will be able to asses the questions, keep a good pace, and answer with strategy under my guidance.

Proofreading

I have worked with many students who can not proofread because their papers look right to them!
I believe in giving students examples and charts they can refer to as they learn.

Social Studies

From 2005-2008 I substituted, observed, and student taught in various classrooms in New jersey. Part of this experience was teaching students essential historical figures, the judicial system, and significant events of American History.

If your 6-12 grade student needs assistance in social studies, I can assist them with semantic charts, vocabulary study skills, and in depth explanations during our tutoring sessions.

Study Skills

I have worked with many students whose learning styles or learning difficulties make them reliant on a strong set of study skills. I'm an advocate of AVID style tutoring, which challenges the student to keep thinking on a higher level, but also demands the student maintain copuous and organized notes.

Can you believe that tutors become nervous about tests, too? We tutors become coaches to our students. Our athletes are students, the game: S.A.T. One of my "tutorees" is taking the S.A.T. tomorrow. Like anyone else, she is a little nervous. I am so proud of all of my students because I watch ideas click. The look on a student's face when he or she "gets" something... read more

ACT

I have never taken the ACT myself, have you? Students are looking for more ways to have edge over their classmates. My 16 year old sister is no exception. She has added ACT to her check off list. The writing portion of this test seems to be optional. Is it worth doing? Perhaps. The more scores recruiters have to go by, the better off (I believe) she will be.

WyzAnt sure seems like a neat way for students and tutors to connect. It seems like every neighborhood has its own babysitter, tutor, or elder care nanny. I can't wait to help all the students out there who are struggling with an essay, homework or tough book. I wish I had a tutor in high school. I always had a tough time with math. I graduated in 2002 without a problem, but always wished... read more
