I'm an environmental engineer, and a 14-year employee of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. I also have 15 years of industry experience in process and production engineering.
I have experience in tutoring math and science. As a senior undergrad student and tutor, I taught remedial math to incoming freshmen students. In addition, I taught at Woodbridge Middle School, Woodbridge, New Jersey, as a substitute teacher.
My teaching approach or technique is to focus primarily on the fundamentals, to first get students grounded in the simple but critical building blocks they'd need to be successful in their learning. For example, emphasizing and encouraging students to memorize the simple rules of algebra, beginning with the rule on order of operation, and how to convert English expressions into algebraic expressions. Memorizing those simple rules will greatly help them in solving a math problem in a timely manner. I also use a sports analogy when tutoring students. I usually tell them that in order to be successful, they need to have a competitive mindset. That to be a good player and help your team win requires practice, practice, and practice. And they need to bring the same commpetive spirit to the classroom.
