Experienced tutor with hundreds of hours tutoring college level and various high school chemistry and physics. Experience tutoring for AP Chemistry as well as teaching (not only tutoring) Calculus II, general chemistry I, II and organic chemistry I, II. 50+ hours tutoring SAT MATH as well as Algebra II. Offering tutoring for Calculus up to BC material (Calculus II). Will tutor multivariate (Calculus III) depending on time of year. Experienced with various biology subjects especially Anatomy and Physiology. Willing to travel.
METHODS:
When I tutor or teach subjects I believe in developing a strong foundation and understanding to help student in future courses. My goal is not only to help the student do well in their classes, but to be able to do well in future classes without me. For example, in first semester physics, I will spend more time than most professors on understanding vectors and their manipulation before continuing to kinematics. In a subject such as organic chemistry, I will focus on how quickly a student can assess all the characteristics of a bond-line drawing (# of carbons/hydrogens, lone pairs, etc) before reviewing mechanisms.
I teach using a combination of material (AP, MCAT, student books) and tailor lessons specifically to each student by preparing PowerPoint presentations and/or problems before class to pinpoint problem areas and common questions asked by teachers. Often, I try to find relevant applications of the subject to encourage a student's future goals to such as finding clinical correlates for those interested in a future in medicine. My rate is often due to the extra hours I put in for students to ensure they get the most out of their time.
I expect my students to be ready for a fast-paced environment and to be ready to be "put on the spot" to simulate test conditions.
