Hello families students and tutees. My name is Fernando or Nando and I am currently a student studying to become a teacher. My major is bilingual education with concentrations in French and history.
I live in East Rutherford, NJ and the Bronx. I go back and forth during the week for classes and work.
I have been working with children for a few years, with experiences in tutoring, teaching, and other areas of child care. I worked in a summer camp in France teaching English to French children. I created lesson plans to teach the children vocabulary and grammar. They were between the ages of 8 and 15. I taught those that had no knowledge of English to experienced speakers. The camp also had me think of new ways of teaching material and presenting it to children with varied interests.
I also had tutored French to small groups in New Jersey. I taught a group of beginners, giving the basics of the language. For another group I taught oral practice with phrases and pronunciation.
I am now currently a student and a substitute teacher. I work in elementary, middle, and high schools. I am fluent in English and French and am comfortable teaching most elementary and middle school subjects and a few high school subjects. I also can teach French and ESL.
I also can cook if the job requires. I have been cooking for years, and have learned recipes from my mother, grandmother, and host mother when in France. I know how to make French, Italian, and Latin American recipes and others. I know games, and can play video games. Children know that I am strict but can joke around if work gets done. I like video games, music, art, reading, movies, soccer, volleyball, and many other interests.
