I didn't start tutoring until I was a junior in high school. My teacher decided to announce that I had gotten a perfect score on my PSAT and I was flooded with requests. After I started tutoring SAT's to my classmates I started to realize that I really enjoyed teaching. When I finished high school I had already tutored students in SAT's, ACT's, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP English, AP Calculus and AP History. I worked during high school because I enjoyed it and it allowed me to pay for my own expenses. In college I kept tutoring to help make ends meet. I went to Pennsylvania State University for Chemical Engineering with an Option in Fuels & Energy, a minor in Chemistry, a minor in Energy Engineering, and a minor in Environmental Engineering. When I finished college I had already tutored college physics up to quantum physics, college chemistry up to organic chemistry and quantum chemistry, calculus up to advanced differential calculus (Calc 4), and a long list of other classes. If you were in one of my classes you probably asked me a question or two really quickly before a test or would email me/message me on Facebook if you really needed help.
I am currently working full time as a professional tutor. I can tutor every subject taught up to a high school level (with the exception of languages I don't know). This includes but isn't limited to any math (calculus, trigonometry, algebra, geometry), any science (biology, physics, chemistry), and of course test preparation (SAT's, SAT II's, ACT's, GRE's, AP's, MCAT's). I can also teach any English (reading, writing), history (American, World) or literature subject. It has happened on occasion where I had to read a book or learn a subject for a student. This is very easy and natural for me and a big part of me genuinely enjoys it. I was fortunate enough to grow up with a passion for learning and I know how to share that with my students. I find it very satisfying when a student can look at a subject that they considered difficult/impossible with absolute clarity. I am a very easy person to get a long with and my students are always very comfortable during sessions.
My students have requested that I mention that I have taken most standardized tests myself. I have taken the GMAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, and a few others. I took them purely for the experience and scored well in all of them.
I have had online students who would work with me via Skype. It is common to have at least one student over seas or who's schedule requires some time over the computer. I am very flexible and am willing to work out a system or schedule to work with my students. The age of my students range from 11 years old to 61 years old. I am able to understand why students struggle with a subject despite their age or background. Because I can connect with my students and because I know the material very well, I can always tell what the student does and doesn't understand. In that respect I have learned how to help my students find the answers themselves without me saying it. I believe in teaching concepts and understanding instead of just memorizing or copying answers down.
