I am a retired educator with 35 years of experience. I taught social studies in grades 7 & 8 for three years and high school social studies for 17 years before becoming a guidance counselor. I was a guidance counselor for five years; then the director of guidance for five years; then the vice principal in guidance for five years. Other than grades 7 & 8, I was in the same high school the entire time.
I retired in 2010 and have been a part-time volunteer at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Bethel, NY, the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. I am a docent (trained tour guide) at the Center and work with visiting school groups. I also make educational presentations to other volunteers. In 2012 I was chosen as the Volunteer of the Year at the Center.
My philosophy is that "Reading is the best way to be a good student; reading is the only way to be a great student."
