Hello! I'm a highly experienced, enthusiastic teacher with years of great results. Many references available. I'm dual NJ certified in both English and Special Ed, with ten years of experience teaching middle school, high school and college. I also have my Masters degree in writing and am a published author.
My dual certification and extensive training allows me to work effectively with all skill levels and ages. I do not have a one size fits all approach; I target each student's areas of weaknesses and strengths, whatever they are, and use individualized techniques to help students achieve their goals. I am highly trained and experienced in teaching strategies, particularly for teens and adults, and I am comfortable with a very wide range of personalities and abilities from special needs to honors. A good tutor doesn't just know the subject; she or he figures out the needs of the student and how to best deliver the subject for that particular student. I really enjoy helping students learn and succeed. An added benefit to my being a working teacher is that I'm familiar with the inner workings of a school system and how to most effectively navigate it.
I'm also experienced as a college admissions coach. As an experienced tutor for SAT and college applications, I've successfully helped students get into: Williams, Northwestern, NYU, Rowan Engineering, Air Force Academy, RPI, Rutgers-Camden Nursing program, U Penn, and many other colleges. For my special needs students who wish to go to community college, I can also help preparing them for Math and English assessment tests and to help them become a self-advocate for their learning needs as they gain independence at college.
For SAT/ACT and college application essays, I've helped many students reach their dreams and beyond. I have helped raise scores from 100-300 points per subject test. With my tutoring, students feel more confident about themselves. Overall, I teach learning strategies, organization and self-assessment, self-advocacy, and many reading and writing skills.
