I have been a private tutor for four years, working with students from 5th grade to college age. I specialize in English and French, and pride myself on creating lesson plans that are tailor made for individual students. Some people learn best by observing, while others need intensive interactive activities to get the most out of a lesson. It's important to identify what teaching methods work best for each person, and this is something I spend a lot of time on from the first time I meet a student. It's also important to stop periodically during a session and ask, "Are you having any trouble understanding this?" or "Is there anything you want me to go over again?", so I always make it a point to keep that kind of dialogue open with my students.
To do a job really well, you have to enjoy doing it. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing my students improve and knowing they've become more comfortable with a subject area they'd struggled with previously. My ultimate goal is to instill a love of learning in as many people as I can, so that we never stop trying to improve ourselves and get as much as we possibly can out of life. Education is key to expanding our perception of the world and of our self-worth, and I am thrilled to be a part of that field.
