Hello! My name is Marc. I have an MBA from Rutgers Business School (Finance), and recently began a Ph.D. program in mathematical/computational finance.
I love Calculus. I was very intimidated by it when I was younger. I chose to be a business major (undergrad), after enrolling in Calculus I. I remember that almost the whole class failed the first quiz. I said, "this is not for me." The fact was, the professor wasn't very good. Calculus is not easy, but definitely not impossible, and actually fun... math in general is fun. The trick is to overcome that anxiety..."This stuff looks like another language!... I can't understand this stuff... why bother?" - No. You can do it. Math takes time and work, but when you start to get it, it is a great feeling.
My Calculus I professor often said, "The more I rush, the more I get behind." Patience and persistence are important. Frustration naturally occurs. But working through problems, we can eventually see the patterns or rules of mathematics, and then appreciate the conceptual nature of the work. Mathematics is so important in many areas of study, careers, etc. I want to help students who feel intimidated by math, realize that they can do it. I think I can help, because I rarely caught on to things right away.
I will break things down, step by step. It is obviously important that I work with your (or your child's) textbook so that he or she succeeds in their class. I was one of those students who saved their textbooks though, so I have quite a library. Sometimes a computer comes in handy as well. Especially for visualization of mathematical concepts. Maple, MATLAB, and Excel are great software applications for that.
I have worked in the corporate world and have good communication skills. Business School was a great experience. I also have good knowledge of Finance, Economics, Accounting, Excel - including VBA programming (macros), Access, and basic programming skills, not only VBA, but C++, R, and I'm currently learning MATLAB. Moreover, I worked as an accountant after graduating college. I know the basics of accounting. I like computers, math, and finance in general.
Never think you can not do anything. Never say math is not for me. It is all about getting serious, patience, practice, and realizing that you may not "get it" the "first or second or whatever time around."
Moreover, if you are a high school, undergraduate, or graduate student, I could help out in subjects like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Investment Analysis, and Portfolio Theory.
I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! My name is Marc. I have an MBA from Rutgers Business School (Finance), and recently began a Ph.D. program in mathematical/computational finance.

Marc is a very patient tutor and he is helping my daughter in Algebra 2 who has a major math phobia. Marc provides stress fee help that allows my daughter to focus on the math and work past her fears. Thank you for your help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an MBA from Rutgers, and many years of experience in business. I've worked as a staff accountant and financial analyst.
This is a very "broad" subject area. However, my education and experience has enabled me to acquire skills such as stock and bond valuation, financial mathematics (PV, FV, IRR, NPV - time value of money calculations, etc.), and various software applications.
I have good knowledge of accounting systems, relational databases, spreadsheet modeling, corporate finance, and investment/portfolio theory. Also, the basics of derivative securities (Black Scholes option pricing, bond mathematics, interest rate swaps, and experience with asset-backed securites). Moreover, I am familiar with optimization models/solutions using Excel's Solver feature for various business problems.
Investment Analysis/Portfolio Theory

Excel Modeling-optimization,vba,simulation, basic regression, option valuation and analysis
I took linear algebra in college, and did very well. We also used linear algebra in an optimization class in grad school, and at my job as a financial analyst. Excel also has several matrix functions, and VBA functions can be programmed.
I have good knowledge of solving systems of linear equations (REF, RREF), matrix arithmetic and operations, determinants (and their properties), and inverse matrices (and their properties). I am comfortable with proofs, if your class is including proof writing.
Also have good knowledge of vector, vector spaces, linear transformations, subspaces, linear dependence, span, basis, and dimensions. Eigenvalue/Eigenvector problems as well.
One cool thing is the ability to use the computer or calculator to check your answers (besides the book).
Linear Algebra is used a lot in a variety of areas. It is an important class for computer science as well. Many problems in linear algebra are best solved by computers. Numerical Linear Algebra is all about creating algorithms to solve systems of linear equations, eigenvalue/eigenvectors, etc. Without computers, solving a system of, say, 100 linear equations, would take quite a long time doing row-reduction by hand! Got to learn the basics first though. It is a fun course. Takes practice.
