I have three years of experience tutoring math students and also tutor reading, science and social studies. I work part-time as a Research and Development Engineer and Mathematics Home Instructor for a local school system. I earned a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Mathematics endorsement in May 2008. I was previously an Instructional Assistant at the University of Delaware Mathematics Teaching and Learning Center and was a Substitute Teacher at local middle and high schools.

Please consider hiring me as your tutor because your student's future is important!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I teach reading to students diagnosed with dyslexia and beginning readers using the Barton Reading and Spelling System. It is a one-on-one tutoring system that teaches through seeing, hearing and moving (based on Orton-Gillingham). It includes ten levels starting with phonemic awareness, consonants, and short vowels, closed syllables and units, and syllable division and vowel teams. To catch up to grade level, I recommend a student have at least 2 hours of individual reading tutoring per week.
