Calculus

I have taken AP Calculus BC and received an “A+” in the course; I also scored a 5/5 on the corresponding AP exam. This course covers major calculus topics, including continuity/limits, differentiation & integration (techniques/applications), Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, numerical approximation of integrals, Taylor series, polar integration, volume of solids of rotation, and separation of variable differential equations. This course includes the AP Calculus AB curriculum as well as elementary calculus.

Differential Equations

My first major exposure to differential equations was my self-study of the subject during summer while I was in high school. While I studied due to my own interest in the subject, I also learned a lot and explored many of the major concepts of the typical course. I also took a differential equations course in my senior year of high school, “Unified Calculus III/Differential Equations”. I am a first-year student studying mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania this fall. This is an advanced 1-semester college-level course that requires AP Calculus BC as a prerequisite as well as a relatively advanced score on the corresponding AP exam. Within this course, many of the major topics of the typical college-level curriculum are explored, including first-order linear equations/integrating factors/Bernoulli equations, approximation methods, vertical motion physics models, homogeneous/non-homogeneous linear equations/method of undetermined coefficients, spring models, method of elimination/linear operators, solving systems through eigenvalues/eigenvectors, almost linear systems, and the Laplace transform. I have received an “A+” in this course, mainly comprised of exams along with occasional homework grades. Topics I self-studied that were not formally explored in this curriculum include series solutions, Wronskians, variation of parameters, Fourier series, and introductory partial differential equations. I intend to further study this subject along with related advanced mathematics disciplines in college.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
