As a Chemistry and Math tutor, I am excited and committed to motivate students in order for them to succeed. After a successful career as a Ph.D. Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry, I mentored several chemists, and my experience is a great asset in my tutoring sessions.

I have experience with AP, Honors and Academic Chemistry. I have prepared students for the SAT II Chemistry Subject Test and AP Chemistry test. I also have experience tutoring Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. When tutoring, I usually go over the students' homework, quizzes and tests, and bring extra problems for them to work on in the areas where they seem to struggle most.

I also can tutor conversational French.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a strong math background from college (I was a chemistry major). I have tutored several students in algebra 1 in the last 3 years. It is very important for a student to understand the basic concepts in Algebra.

Algebra 2

I have a strong math background from college (I was a chemistry major). I have tutored several students in Algebra 2 in the past 3 years. I am very committed to helping students do well in Algebra 2.

Chemistry

I have a bachelor and doctorate degree in chemistry. I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a chemist for 26 years and in my retirement I decided to help students succeed in chemistry. I have successfully tutored several students in honors and AP chemistry in the past few years. I have a broad knowledge of chemistry and passed the Praxis test 4 years ago. I really feel I can help your student succeed.

Organic Chemistry

I have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from McGill University and was an organic chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry for most of my career (26 years). I synthesized compounds in the lab and planned the synthetic routes to be used to achieve a successful synthesis. I now feel I can help your student in organic chemistry at the high school and college level.

Prealgebra

I have a strong math background from college (I was a chemistry major). I have always enjoyed math and I have been successfully tutoring several students from 5th to 8th grade in the past 3 years.

Joanne,   In order to write 50283 in 2 significant figures, you will need to use scientific notation.     50283 = 5.0283 X 104   2 significant figures would be 5.0 x 104   Hope it helps.

Carlos,   Remember to use the change of base formula: logan= logbn / logba   So, log2 (64) = log10 (64) / log10 (2)   Using a calculator, log2 (64) = 1.8 / 0.3 = 6   The answer is A.   Hope it helps.

Carlos,   If the arithmetic sequence is an = 8n, this means that for n = 1, a1 = 8 x 1 = 8 n = 2, a2 = 8 x 2 = 16 n = 3, a3 = 8 x 3 = 24 n = 4, a4 = 8 x 4 = 32 n = 5, a5 = 8 x 5 = 40   Therefore the answer is D   Hope it helps.
