I have been working in the public school systems for the past five years as a substitute teacher and a teacher's aide. During this time I have held long term substitute positions as a World History teacher for sixth and seventh graders and a High School Math teacher, teaching Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 at an alternative school. Furthermore, I have worked closely with students of all grade levels and cognitive abilities. I passed both the Praxis 1 PPST exam and the Praxis 2 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge exam with the EST Recognition of Excellence award. These are the test that teachers are required to take in order to be certified K-5 elementary teachers. I have associates degrees in Criminal Justice and Elementary Education, and I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. Finally, I volunteer as a tee ball coach at West Cumberland Little League.
My academic background thoroughly augments my classroom experience, giving me a high level of confidence in my ability to tutor students of various grade levels. Furthermore, my background and community service has made me knowledgeable and sensitive to the diverse cultural, social and learning needs of elementary-age children. I fully understand there is diversity in learning styles and the need to provide differentiated instruction to all learners. I truly enjoy teaching students and showing them new ways of understanding information. My goal is to give the students not only the information they need, but showing them how to search for and find the information they need for future endeavors.
