My name is Amanda and I am currently a 6th grade math teacher. I graduated from the Rutgers Graduate School of Education with a Master's in Elementary Education and a specialization in Middle School Mathematics. I believe that understanding each students individual strengths, weaknesses, and needs leads to a successful tutoring experience. I strive to adapt my teaching to best suit each child's needs through games, real life experiences, and the 3 different modalities (auditory, kinesthetic, and visual). I have experience teaching students with various special needs ranging from ADD/ADHD to Autism. I have also tutored and taught with a range of different mathematic curriculums, especially Everyday Math and Connected Math. Additionally, I have experience in NJASK preparation and study skills.

I use games, real life experiences, dances, songs, art, highlighters, and more to help students comprehend, remember, and apply the skills and topics they are learning in class.

Study Skills

As a sixth grade teacher, it is my job to help students transition from the comforts of elementary school to a more independent learning lifestyle. This includes organizing their notebooks so they can properly take notes, find and hand in homework, and come prepared to class. I model how to take notes on the board and to actively listen to what information is important to remember.
