My name is Auria. I am married and have a 22 year old daughter. My love of teaching began long before I was a parent, but became a lifetime journey when I became a mother.
I began my journey as a volunteer at our local library and started a story telling and crafting class for neighborhood children and my daughter when she was 3 years old. My daughter started kindergarten and I became a lunch aide and started a play group with the children during lunchtime.
I then decided to become a member of "The Volunteers of America" and learned specific teaching techniques to teach reading and math fundamentals. I taught children for free at the library. I worked on a committee to bring an organization called "Chess in the School" to my daughter's school and volunteered with professional chess masters in teaching children to play and compete in chess.
When my daughter began 5th grade I acquired a position as a paraprofessional. I worked in 2 typical 5th grade classrooms preparing lessons, grading test and checking homework/classwork, working in small groups or one on one as needed.
The following year I worked in a class of children with multiple disabilities. It was here that I found my passion and decided to return to school and pursue my degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education. I have been working with children with special needs for the past 12 years and have enjoyed my journey thus far and I have had the privilege to teach them and to learn so much from them as well.
I believe children learn better when rewarded and praised. I am a patient teacher and I love what I do. I look forward to meeting you and working with your child.
