My experience with in the field of education started back in 1985-1986 when I student-taught through the PreService Program at Teachers' College, Columbia University, where I worked with elementary level students in kindergarten at a public school and in the third/fourth grades in a private school setting. After receiving my elementary level teaching certification, I worked as a Basic Skills instructor, helping children in various grades to develop skills and review subject matter taught in their classrooms in the areas of reading, writing and math. I have also had the opportunity to work as a substitute paraprofessional through my local school district.
I enjoy working with children, primarily on the elementary level, as that forms the bulk of my experience, but I am willing to help older students to develop basic level skills in reading and grammar. As a student of French, having received my Bachelor of Arts in French Studies and having studied French through high school, I would also be happy to assist students with elementary level courses or those just starting French.
In terms of tutoring methods, they are developed based on the student and his/her needs.
