I am a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing my passion for learning with others. I enjoy teaching and am patient with students. I focus on coaching students on the learning process as well as the content. I believe that every student is unique and work with each to find approaches to learning, studying and academic success that are attuned to their individuality.
I attended a private college prep high school (College Prep: math, English, history, science, music, art). I earned an AP or Advanced Placement score of 3 or higher in high school for European history (as a high school sophomore), American history, music literature, and chemistry. I went to Rice University for undergrad and have an MBA from CU-Boulder.
I can help with standardized test taking strategy, techniques and improvement. I scored a 1300 on the SATs (660 Verbal, 640 Math), and over 700 on the GMAT. I took the ACT in June, 2012 and scored 32 in Math, which is in the 97th percentile. I took the ACT again in June 2013 and scored 32 overall (98th percentile) with subscores of 34 in science (99th percentile), 32 in Reading (95th percentile) and 31 in Math (96th percentile).
I tutor students in 4th grade and up through high school, college, graduate school, as well as executives.
In 2012 I passed the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge Test for High School Teachers to qualify for "Highly Qualified" status in the State of Colorado, the highest required score of any state. I passed the test the first time using learning strategies, tools and techniques that I use with my students. I taught math in Denver Public Schools in the 2012-2013 school year, and am teaching in a private school in the 2013-2014 school year.
I have helped a number of people enlist that would not otherwise be able to by helping them increase their ASVAB scores significantly. All were barely out of high school with essentially dead-end jobs or worse and were motivated enough to meet once per week for 2 hours and then work on their own for 5-10 hours during the week at my direction of what they should do.
My mindset in working with students is that through my mentoring and coaching I am providing my students with an essential freedom: the "freedom to choose" their future, rather than have it chosen for them, as free will is one of the many God-given gifts we all receive. I am not a dispenser of information; I am a mentor and coach in the art and science of learning.
Here are subjects I have tutored quite a bit recently:
Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry, AP Calculus AB/BC, College Calculus I/II/III
Chemistry, AP Chemistry
Physics, AP Physics
ACT Prep / ASVAB Prep / Praxis Prep / Praxis MCK Math Teacher Prep
College Level Study Skills Development for College and High School Students

I am currently studying Biochemistry and welcome the opportunity to help students with that subject
