Hi there! I am an education major attending Western Governors University (B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies, K-8). I currently work with children 2 months in age and up. I am well versed in getting students of this age group engaged in learning and helping them get over their fears related to learning. I also volunteer with Toastmasters International - a non-profit educational organization dedicated to teaching the art of public speaking and leadership. I have a strong belief in giving others a positive boost through learning; and giving them a sense of independence through education. There's something wonderful about seeing the spark of desire for achievement in one's eyes when they make their journey and reach their educational goal(s). Therefore, I always approach every student with an open mind and fresh perspective.
Everyone doesn't learn in the same manner. Therefore, I work with students to shape their sessions with me so that they are the most beneficial to them. For example, a visual learner isn't going to come to realizations on subject matter if everything is only talked out. There needs to be visual aids and hands-on work. Furthermore, I will help the students develop studying techniques that they can use at home so that they can become intellectually independent. In today's educational world, that kind of independence is important and key to achieving maximum potential. It is that kind of independence that reaps self confidence and a positive self-image - two things necessary for success.
I thoroughly enjoy algebra. My freshman year in high school, I did the impossible and finished out the year with an average of 105/100 for Algebra 1. I ended Algebra 2 with a 97/100. Both courses kept me intrigued. I often assist my younger cousin with her algebra homework and find different ways to explain the lessons to her - including different methods to solving the problems and checking the solutions.

I have studied and practiced public speaking through Toastmasters International. I have been a member since September 2010. By following the Toastmasters educational track, I have practiced both planned/ written speeches and impromptu speaking. I've also practiced larger presentations requiring power point and other visual aids. As of now, I have achieved my Advanced Communicator Silver, and I am a 1-hour presentation away from achieving the Advanced Communicator Gold designation. In November 2012, I placed second in the District level Table Topics contest - an impromptu speaking contest when participants are to formulate an answer to a question and speak for one to two minutes on the subject matter.
I've been playing the saxophone for 10+ years. I began studying in fifth grade, via the alto saxophone. By seventh grade, I was playing both the tenor and baritone sax and participating in an advanced jazz ensemble. During my middle school years, I attended a performing arts academy. In high school, I was a member of concert band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, marching and pep band, and other groups outside of school. I studied for 1.5 years privately under the instruction of David Watson. I then attended New Jersey City University as a music major for one year; needing to drop out due to unforeseen circumstances. Currently, I volunteer with a local youth band as a mentor and performer. Also, when time permits, I give free private lessons to the students of a local school who are unable to afford them.
