Hi!
My name is Jane and I love Spanish, writing and history! I hold a B.A. from American University in History and Spanish 2006 and a Certificate of Translation from American University 2011. While in college I studied abroad at the University of Granada in Spain for six months and volunteered at a bi-lingual preschool in Washington, D.C. for a year.
Immediately upon graduation I joined the U.S. Army as an active duty Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. Between 2006-2010 I was stationed in Korea, Iraq and Louisiana, and currently serve as a Reservist in a Civil Affairs unit out of Rhode Island. My time in the Army taught me that hard work, respect and integrity go a long way; all are values I seek to instill in my students through tutoring.
Since I left the Army I have worked as a legal assistant, where I had the unique opportunity to hone my Spanish skills with translating some of the firm's documents from English to Spanish and working on Spanish-speaking domestic and civil cases, and currently am a Business Development Manager.
I aspire to remain patient, professional, and personal during times of instruction, and develop short-term and long-term strategies for success that suit each students lifestyle. In addition to utilizing designated curriculum resources, I provide outside resources of various platforms that will provide assistance and practice outside of our tutoring sessions.
I have worked with students who are learning English as their second language. I have experience with students from Preschool through 12th grade.
My goal is to be open and honest regarding my strengths, weaknesses, and capabilities. Thus, feel free to make a request for assistance not explicitly indicated in my profile, and I will let you know whether the task falls within my abilities.
