My name is Shugui Liu and I come from China. I graduated from a normal university in China in 2002 and I worked as a teacher assistant for more than one year during my undergraduate period. Now I am a Chinese tutor for two children(one is six years old and another is eight years old. And I am a Chinese teacher in Chelmsford Chinese School.

Why do I think myself to be a strong candidate as a Chinese tutor? I think there are three reasons as follows:
1. I come from China and my native language is Chinese. I can speak very standard Mandarin and I love my mother language. I think Chinese is a very attractive language, so I am very happy to teach people to learn Chinese.

2. I graduated from a teachers' university and I know how to communicate with students and which teaching method is applicable to students. I think I will be a good mandarin teacher because I have qualities as follows: Firstly, I have a good personal quality such as being patient to students who have made some mistakes, showing enthusiasm in class, having a quick response to the immediate emergency, being open-minded, etc. Secondly, I possess necessary skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating of mandarin. In addition, I have the means to activate my class and give students the opportunities to practice mandarin. Only in this way can the students improve their communicative competence.

3. I know how to teach children to learn language. I think the most important is cultivation of interest.

If I am your Mandarin tutor, how will I arrange our class?

I will first communicate with every student and know their Mandarin level. Then I will ask them to write down their wishes or hobbies, according to which I will design some stories. I will then arrange by teaching units (topics) which are arranged in order of time sequence. For each topic, we will act out one associated story. The students will have different characters playing different roles. During the acting, I will be responsible for helping them to express what they want to say in Mandarin so as to improve their ability of expression. After the acting, I will summarize the used words and sentences, and give them more
opportunities to practice. As I learn more about the students, I will adjust my teaching method accordingly.

If you need any further information on my background and qualifications, please let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration.
