I am an NH certified teacher, MEd General Special Ed, HQT in math through Algebra 1, English through HS level. I taught / tutored in public and special ed schools in NH for 6 years, mostly middle school through 9th grade, but also high school. I am a former technical writer (15 years) and computer programmer (8 years). I'm currently tutoring students privately and through WyzAnt, and loving it!

I'd be delighted to tutor either home or public schooled students in math, writing of any type, general subjects, and organization. Also adults who have "never been good at math" and must pass college pre-Algebra or Algebra 1. I have written a lot, professionally, and know how to help you organize and write anything you might need to write. Algebra 1

I really enjoy teaching Algebra 1. I had to relearn many of the concepts to become highly qualified, and to teach it and, as I relearned it, I understood why some of them did not make sense the first time through. Vocabulary

Vocabulary is best learned while learning material that uses the vocabulary. And, material is best learned when every word in the material is understood. There are basically two types of grammarians: those who know all the rules by name, and those who can get everything right by "instinct". I'm more of the second kind. Spanish

I studied Spanish in high school and college, up through third year in high school and a 300 level class in college. I lived in a Spanish speaking dorm in college, though I only took one class. SSAT

I am familiar with the materials that are on the SSAT test. I've helped one student prepare for the test, using a preparation booklet. As well, I've explained test taking specifically for the SSAT, and helped students prepare for taking tests.

If you need some quizzing and review, and reteaching on any area we find you're weak in, we can do that together. I can also help you understand the information on when you should guess on a question, and when you should not guess, and why.

Elementary Math

I was fine in math as a child, but I distinctly remember struggling with some parts of it. As an adult, I still remember that, and can sympathize with young learners who need extra help. Elementary (K-6th)

I'm WyzAnt-certified in elementary math and in reading. I'm a certified general special ed teacher in my state, also. I typically take students who are grade 4 and above, since that is my experience. I have taught students who are older but have lower skill levels, though, both in math and in reading.

Study Skills

As a special educator (MEd) I've taught studies for students from 8th through 12th grade. I've helped students with organization and study skills during these studies. I have taught a separate class in organization, including both materials and how to organize information for papers and projects. I've taken specific classes in study skills.

Special Needs

I have an MEd in Special Ed. I've been a case manager at the High School and Middle School level, taught pullout math for 8th grade special needs students, and have taught math through Algebra 1 at a private special ed school. I've tutored students ranging from grade 4 to grade 9 in both general subjects and specifically math, and have run studies for students up through 12th grade as a case manager, helping students with many subjects.

Aspergers

I have an MEd in Special Ed. I've been a case manager at the High School and Middle School level. Many of my students have been coded with Aspergers or PDD of various sorts. I have worked at a private special ed school in Concord, which specializes in helping students with Aspergers. And I worked for years in the high tech industry, most recently as a technical writer, and worked closely with many adults who were very likely Aspergers.
