Whether you are new to computers and need to get started with Email, creating documents, or getting on the Internet, or a business professional who needs just-in-time training to figure out how to perform a specific task in a Microsoft Office application, I can help.

I have been a teacher, computer professional, Web designer, and corporate trainer spanning a 25-year career in the high tech industry. I have taught at all levels and to many types of audiences, from computer novice to engineering and business professionals. I'm currently teaching computers part-time for an adult learning center.

I take a no-nonsense approach and try to assess your specific needs prior to starting your training. Then I deliver what you need, just when you need it. When we're done, I make sure you can perform the task independently, and I provide post-training followup support in case you've forgotten a step or two.

In the corporate world, my career track focused on the following areas:

- Documentation and training
- Instructional design and course development
- Web publishing and project management

I also taught MS Office applications and Web design in several local area colleges.

As for the subject areas I specialize in, they include:

- All MS Office applications, including Publisher, and Windows operating systems
- Multimedia applications and tools, such as Sony Vegas Movie Studio and Sound Forge Audio Studio
- Web design tools, such as Dreamweaver
- Graphics tools, such as Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro

And if you need help integrating some or all of these, we can do that too. (For example, creating documents or Web pages with graphics elements)

No job is too big or too small. Whether you need help getting your vacation photos online to share, or you're a club secretary needing help with a large mailing list, or an adult learner with a specific computer need, the Office Professor can help.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

In Photoshop Elements Training, we highlight the key features of this image organization and photo enhancement tool. We learn to correct and enhance photographs, as well as organizing your collection of images. The course also explains how to use photos in creative projects like photo books, calendars, and greeting cards, and how to share your work with others. We make extensive use of exercise files that accompany the course.

Topics include:

- Downloading files from your devices
- Importing photos into an Elements catalog
- Organizing photos into albums and Smart Albums
- Automatically adjusting photos in Quick Fix
- Walking through Guided Edit photo techniques
- Understanding photo resizing and resolution
- Cropping and straightening photos
- Making and refining selections
- Correcting photos in the Full Edit workspace
- Applying image sharpening
- Adding text and special effects
- Using Elements to create photo projects

Dreamweaver

I am very familiar with the tools and techniques of Dreamweaver, up to version CS4, and have been using it for at least 10 years, since the earliest versions.

I am very proficient with all the ins and outs of Dreamweaver, as well as recommended best practices for crafting new web sites and files, the fundamentals of HTML and CSS, and how to ensure clean and accessible code. I have been using Dreamweaver to create and style web pages, manage multiple sites, and add user interactivity with its scripting tools.

I would easily be able to tutor any student on any of the following topics:

- Understanding and using the DW interface
- Defining and structuring a new site
- Creating new web documents from scratch or from templates
- Adding and formatting text
- Understanding style sheet basics
- Placing and styling images
- Creating links to internal pages and external web sites
- Controlling page layout with CSS
- Building and styling forms
- Reusing web content with templates
- Adding interactivity
- Working with Flash and video

A little known feature of Microsoft Excel is its ability to pull data from the Web if the data is in some form of table format. Here's how it works... A few weeks ago I was talking with a woman who had just taken a Photoshop Elements course. The instructor was a graphics design artist who had an impressive portfolio of work that seemed to indicate he was highly qualified to teach this course. She completed the course and showed me what she had actually accomplished after many weeks of struggling with this very powerful application. It was... read more
